Video: 2013 Hyundai Veloster

This is a cool video introducing you to the edgy yet pretty slick 2013 Hyundai Veloster. Take a moment and watch, then follow up with some of the details I have for you.

I actually like the concept that Hyundai has taken with the Veloster. The car is unique whereas it has two doors on the passenger side, but only one on the drivers side. Technically, the car can be called a four-door if you include the rear hatch.

Celebrating the Iso Rivolta GT

50th Anniversary of Italian style and American muscleNow here’s a brand you just don’t hear much about but should.
Iso is known by collectors but any enthusiast would benefit by learning about the company and the beautiful cars they made.
Iso started out by making scooters and motorcycles after World War II. They went on to build small trucks and the well-known Isetta mini-car, made famous by non-other than BMW, who licensed the car from Iso.
But Iso really attracted enthusiasts eyes with the introduction of their own line of cars. The Rivolta …

2013 SRT Viper

If you’re an enthusiast, then yesterday’s news from the New York Auto Show borders on nirvana. If you’re a competitor to this all new serpent, then you may be staring purgatory in the face.

American muscle is back and it’s name is Viper. SRT Viper that is.

And it looks fantastic. Aside from a nose somewhat reminiscent of the current model Corvettes such as the Z06 and ZR1, the car has made a nice evolution and looks arguably quite Italian. And I’m quite happy to see Dodge tone down their signature cross-like grill. Now, rather than body colored, it’s blacked-out and far less obvious. Hopefully, as time goes on, the rest of the Dodge line up will see a similar styling change. But enough design analysis, let’s get right to the specs.

Summer of green love?

Right on the heels of General Motors posting decent sales numbers, they’ve announced Chevy Volt production will be halted for three weeks in July.

Volt production was recently stopped for five weeks due to a surplus of the car sitting on dealer lots. The stoppage ended April 23 but as we’re hearing today, there will be another interruption in July.

Buyers haven’t exactly been flocking to dealer lots to buy the car. Even with incentives and a much ballyhooed marketing campaign, this extended range electric just isn’t catching on.

The Roadster Peepshow

Taking a new model reveal to a whole new level, MINI has commandeered a corner store on Hollywood Blvd. to expose the MINI faithful to the new Roadster.

Who needs Facebook when a store front in a popular and heavily trafficked neighborhood will do the same thing? Except in MINI’s case, their ‘Peepshow’ will ring truer with potential buyers, creating a viral, word-of-mouth buzz that online social media can’t achieve. Yes, I know, social media can be very viral if done well, but in this case, MINI has created a physical location that will create local buzz first, potentially spreading from there via word of mouth. Ingenious marketing campaigns are just that…unique, eye-catching and memorable. MINI has potentially struck gold here with a campaign that viewers will remember and tell their friends about.

BMW i8 Concept Spyder

BMW has introduced the newest ‘i’ model with the unveiling of the i8 Concept Spyder.

The i8 Concept Spyder is closely related to the i8 Concept but with a few differences. The Spyder has a shorter wheelbase, is strictly a two-seater and has upward swiveling doors. In addition, your greenness can be further enhanced by the two electric scooters stored on-board under a transparent tailgate. I can already hear the Earth breathing a sigh of relief. Of course, I say all of this with tongue planted firmly in cheek.

The Spyder looks pretty good although not all that dissimilar from recently introduced models from Audi and Lamborghini. With all of the talk about efficient cars of the future, no one is really breaking new ground visually. Where’s George Jetson’s flying car when you need it?
