Volkswagen has a court-appointed deadline today to reach an agreement with government regulators regarding the diesel emissions scandal. But it is very likely they will miss it.
Volkswagen cheated smog regulations by incorporating a workaround in their diesel vehicles where emissions were tailed back when cars were connected to municipal testing systems.
Volkswagen has been negotiating with government regulators for some time now trying to come to an agreement on how to fix the 580,000 diesel vehicles on the road here in the United States.
Part of the problem is a full fix may be unlikely. California apparently has said it may allow partially repaired cars to stay on the road. The hook is whether or not the EPA will take the middle road and accept a similar plan. Volkswagen has floated ideas of compensating owners for repairs or buying back some of the cars.
The drama goes on and continues to be a big disappointment to enthusiasts.
