Top 5 Best Car TV Adverts
Whilst surfing the net yesterday, I came across an article on the new Nissan Juke. Apparently, Nissan are spending a whopping £8 million pounds on an advertising campaign to launch the new compact crossover. Yes you read correctly – £8 million pounds!
Now, I know £8 million is a little excessive for a marketing campaign but Nissan’s news did get me thinking about the great TV car adverts of the past. Gone are the days when we were impressed by a well-shot photo and a cheap price tag (total costs hidden in the small print of course)… now we want an all singing, all dancing promotion before we even take a glance at the TV screen, to see the cars for sale.
So, to honour the imagination, creativity and sheer genius of the car marketing industry, I’ve put together my top 5 favourite car TV ad’s. In no particular order…
Golf GTI: Singing in the Rain
What a fabulous piece of film. Whoever came up with this idea should be given a medal! Everyone’s favourite iconic dancer Gene Kelly suddenly transforms from a sodden man in love to a break dancing king… oh an a Golf GTI just happens to be in the background. Genius!
Volkswagen Polo: Singing Dog
This advert never fails to make me laugh and I don’t know one person who doesn’t love it. The ultra cool dog sits beside his owner in a VW Polo, oozing confidence and sophistication… only to be reduced to a quivering wreck in the local shop, bank or wherever. Why? It’s all down to ‘Polo Confidence’.
Citroen C4: Alive with Technology
Its starts with the Citroen C4 stood alone in a parking lot only to transform into a dancing robot – an impressively good dancing robot! The CGI and imagery is fantastic. We can see every inch of the car as the robot moves. The start of many great ‘dancing robot’ adverts from Citroen.
Honda: Cogs Make Cars
At just over 2 minutes, it’s probably one of the longest car adverts ever made… but well worth every second. Honda demonstrates how every cog plays a part in creating a car, each nudging the next to set off a change of events. The soundtracks pretty cool too.
Skoda Fabia: Let’s make a cake
It starts with the mixing, beating and baking of all things sweet, accompanied by the infamous soundtrack by Julie Andrews. But hang on a second… this isn’t an M&S advert. That looks suspiciously like an engine… and a chassis… and a tyre… And with your tastebuds tickled and a slight drool starting to form, the Skoda Fabia (in cake form) is finally revealed. Who’d have thought baking a cake was so complicated?
Hmmm… so many fantastic adverts, so little time. Actually, come to think about it, maybe Nissan does need the £8 million marketing budget…
